Unkle Dukee's Fishin'! — Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 18, 2026
Unkle Dukee's Fishin'! is a free fishing companion app. It helps you find waters near you, check the day's fishing verdict, look up seasons and limits, and keep your own private fishing log. This policy explains, in plain words, what the app touches and what it never will.
The short version
Your personal fishing data lives in your own Google Drive. The app runs as you, under your own Google account. We never receive it, we never see it, and we keep no copy of it anywhere. There are no ads, and nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing. Ever.
What the app creates in your Drive
When you use the log, the app creates two things in your own Google Drive:
- A spreadsheet called "Unkle Dukee's Fishin'! - My Log" — your catches, your harvest records, your private spots, and your personal bests.
- A folder called "Unkle Dukee's Fishin'! - Photos" — catch photos you choose to upload.
Both belong to you. You can open them, edit them, share them, or delete them at any time, right in your Drive. Delete them and your fishing data is gone. We hold no copy to restore, because we never had one.
The permissions, in plain words
When you first open the app, Google asks you to approve a short list of permissions. Google writes those descriptions, not us — so here is what each one actually means here:
- Google Drive — only the files you use with this app. The app can create and open your log spreadsheet and your photo folder, and nothing else. It cannot browse, read, or delete the rest of your Drive.
- Google Sheets. The app reads one shared public database of fishing waters (names, locations, species, seasons), and it writes your catches and spots into your own log spreadsheet. It does not open your other spreadsheets.
- Connect to an external service. The app fetches weather, tides, and public fishing information from sources like Open-Meteo, NOAA, and state fish and wildlife agencies — including live crab status from Washington's WDFW.
- Send email as you — only if you turn on text alerts. Text alerts are delivered by emailing your phone carrier's text gateway, and the one-time test text works the same way. If you never turn alerts on, the app sends nothing.
- Run when you are not present. A timer refreshes the fishing verdicts and crab seasons a couple of times a day so the information is fresh when you open the app. This uses public data only. It is never about you.
Your own AI key (optional)
Fish ID and What's Cookin'? work with your own AI account. If you choose to use them, you paste your own key from a provider you pick (such as Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Meta Llama). Your key is stored privately in your own account settings. It is never shown to us or to anyone else, and it is only ever sent to the provider you chose, when you ask a question. Photos and questions you submit go to that provider under your account and are handled under that provider's own privacy policy.
The angler counter
The app keeps a simple headcount of how many anglers use it. Your number is yours alone — it carries no name, no email address, and nothing about where you fish or what you catch. It is a count, not a profile.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data. We could not if we wanted to — we never hold it.
- We do not run ads or marketing trackers.
- We do not read your email, your contacts, or your photos, beyond the specific files described above.
- We do not publish your private spots. A spot you mark private stays in your own log, in your own Drive.
Public information
Spot names, locations, seasons, limits, and harvest rules shown in the app come from public sources, mainly state fish and wildlife agencies. Regulations change, so always confirm the current rules on the official agency page linked from the app before you fish or harvest.
Taking your access back
You can revoke the app's permissions at any time in your Google Account, under "Third-party access" (myaccount.google.com/permissions). Revoking stops the app from working under your account. Deleting the log spreadsheet and photo folder from your Drive deletes your fishing data with us — all of it, because all of it was only ever there.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this same address with a new effective date, and material changes will be noted in the app.
